Guest Post: Table Setting Ideas for the Holidays

Hi, friends! I'm currently driving across the country and sharing my adventures via Instagram. In the meantime, please enjoy this guest post from Myrline Delva from Designed for Life who hails all the way from Australia! I absolutely love these ideas she has for holiday table decor and hope you feel inspired to brighten up your table for the holidays.

Hello, Hey Love Designs readers! I’m Myrline from Designed For Life. Christmas is my favourite time of the year. I love spending it with loved ones and the best way I do it is by throwing a big lunch/dinner party just before the big day. I’m so excited to share with you some of my favourite table setting ideas to bring some holiday cheer to your Christmas do.

By introducing these colours to your table (and home) thoughtfully, you can achieve that Christmas atmosphere without the cliché. But who doesn’t love a good cliché at Christmas time? Think elf hats, festive patterns like plaid, ornaments, pinecones, cinnamon, even mistletoe, you name it, to get the classic look this Christmas. Or if you prefer a more pared-back approach, incorporate one or two Christmas elements or just green and red for a “jolly feel.”

Give your holiday décor a mod spin with a mixture of graphic patterns and non-traditional colors. With an accent colour in mind (keeping non-traditional in mind - I love the vibrancy of the neon yellow used here) choose either a side plates or bowl, balanced with white or black plates. The best part is you can use these pieces all year round. Finish the look off with personalized baubles place cards, candles, and geometric Christmas décor.

A table blanketed in white often gives a sense of sophistication, femininity, and a sense of occasion to a gathering. Get the look by using classic white dinnerware, clear glasses, and metallic elements like your silverware (small amounts!) of glitter, and dainty ribbons to hold napkins in place. Add some white florals for soft scent, and finally, introduce festive pieces such as mini gingerbread houses and baubles to achieve your refined winter wonderland.

Thanks for having me Michelle!
