Calligraphy Week: Chalkboard Lettering
Hi friends! I'm having so much fun with Calligraphy Week. What about you? I totally geek out over hand-lettering so I love being able to share my nerdery with you. Today I'm talking chalkboard lettering!
I don't know what it is about chalkboards, but we all seem to be going crazy over it. There are no shortage of ideas on Pinterest and it seems like everyone wants chalkboard lettering at their weddings, birthdays, showers, and other special events.
I finally decided to sit down and try my hand at it. I started with a pretty blank slate to start with...
My brain felt the way my dog looks.
PS: Did you know you can sharpen chalk just like you would a pencil? This ensure you get a nice point for lettering, but you will have to sharpen often.
It wasn't long before the inspiration started flowing.
I took one of my favorite phrases and started by drawing the banner. I then applied the fake calligraphy style to the word "Love."
Once I was done writing and drawing everything, I went back and added some flair such as the dashes on the banner and the loop after the "e" in "Love."
What do you think?
The great thing about writing on a chalkboard is that if you screw up, it's easy to erase! No wasting paper here. You can literally start all over with a clean slate, or just go back with a towel or Q-tip to remove any mistakes.
So give it a go and let me know how it turns out for you! I'm going to keep trying my hand at this as well until I really get the hang of of it. Maybe one day I can be commissioned to do giant murals of chalkboard lettering.
