Farmers Market Season Returns!
I'm a big fan of farmers markets - are you? Not only is it great to shop local but farmers markets are great entertainment! When the weather is nice and I have a rare weekend morning free, it's nice to drive to a nearby market and just take in the environment. A bounty of produce, fresh flowers, meats, and many unique food items. Sometimes the food is a great deal, depending on what you're looking for.
While there are year-round farmers markets, most of the ones in this area open up in May. This weekend, Krista and I decided to check out the brand new Mosaic Central Farmers Market!
Asparagus on asparagus on asparagus.
I'm already a big fan of Mosaic District - it's an open air shopping center with a lot of great DC-based restaurants and shops in the convenience of Northern Virginia (aka, I can park easily here!). They also have lots of free events such as movies in the park, outdoor yoga, etc. Add a farmers market to the mix -- when can I move in? (Just kidding, I already know about their ridiculous rent.)
Mosaic's farmers market had lots of great options. I left with a bounty of:
- Pork and cabbage dumplings from Pinch Gourmet Dumplings
- Handmade tortilla chips and black bean dip from Betty's Chips & Salsa
- Local honey (sorry, didn't catch the name of the stand!)
If I didn't go to the grocery store the day before I'd be stocking up on veggies and eggs!
Are you a farmers market fan? Which ones do you frequent if you live in the Northern Virginia area? These are my favorites:
- Mosaic Central Farmers Market (obvs)
- City of Falls Church Farmers Market
- Reston Farmers Market (Lake Anne)
I'd love to venture out to these DC ones one day:
