Molly Jacques Calligraphy Course on Skillshare
I bought a calligraphy kit over a year ago. I believe I bought the kit to address by 2011 Christmas cards.
Confession: I never opened it.
I think I just never made the time to learn how to correctly use a calligraphy pen so that's when I started doing my doodle calligraphy. It was much more accessible to try and work on my penmanship with regular pens and Sharpies when things got boring at the office.
A couple of weeks ago, I finally broke open the box. I was ecstatic to see how well the ink flowed off of the pen, however, the calligraphy looked bad (to me).
It will take some practice but I was disappointed it didn't just come naturally to me. I wanted it to look like less ye olde English calligraphy and more like the modern, whimsical calligraphy that I love so much.
Then I found out Molly Jacques, one of my favorite calligraphers, was holding a workshop in December. I thought of a thousand excuses of why I needed to splurge on the trip to NYC and take the class. Then my brain took over and after my cousin assured me that my handwriting is whimsical already, there was no need to spend so much money on a course. Maybe I could hold out til she taught a course in DC.
Then imagine my surprise when I found out she is teaching "The Art of Modern Calligraphy" online course on Skillshare. Happy day! The class is obviously not as intensive as her 2-day course, but I can learn some basics without breaking the bank. The course is only $20 and you'll learn how to create your own alphabet. I also love that the supplies needed link directly to the brands she recommends and are inexpensive. The class starts September 25 but since it's not a live class, you don't have to be available right away. You also get to share your creations with other students if you choose. Needless to say, I'm signed up and the supplies are on their way.
Want to take the course too? Please use my referral link and you'll save $10 off of this class. Squee!
