A Hey Love Kind of Birthday

Over the weekend I held a very small party to celebrate a year of being in business. In reality, it was just an excuse to pull out all the stops and have a party! Hey Love's First Birthday Party - the sweets

Since I moved into a one bedroom home over three years ago, it's been hard to feed my need to play hostess, so I don't normally get to throw my own parties with found accouterments like a dessert table, favor boxes, food labels. It's usually me helping someone with their party or being hired to style someone's event. I wanted to do something for me!

Hey Love's First Birthday Party - the savory finger foods

While it would have been fun to have just a desserts table, I knew that my friends and I would suffer from a sugar coma, so I balanced the sweets out with more savory options. And each appetizer were easy to eat with your hands - no mess involved.

Mom even offered to bring her egg rolls, since my friends constantly rave about them.

Yes, readers, she caters! You see where I get the party gene from?

Hey Love's First Birthday Party - rainbow layer cake!

Despite having made literally hundreds of cupcakes in the last year, I am awful when it comes to cake. I outsourced the job to a fellow Zeta Tau Alpha alumna Jackie McCain to do the job. I had a vision in my head and she captured it well. And there's bunting! The surprise was the rainbow cake inside! My friends went nuts. Thanks Jackie for accommodating my requests and going out of your norm. Jackie normally works with fondant.

And since we were left with extra food, I put together to go boxes with hand made Thank You tags.

Thanks to everyone who made the past year possible, and for the lucky few who got to celebrate with me this weekend!
