Not everything will go as smooth as you'd like them to be. I know I'm not perfect, but I strive to do as great of a job as possible.
So you can imagine my disappointment when I delivered wedding sugar cookies to a bride and they were ruined during delivery. I ended up remaking the batch which thankfully went better after some modifications, but I knew in my gut there were ways to avoid it happening in the first place.
What went wrong?
- I tried a new recipe.
- There was not enough time for the icing to dry because it was runny.
- I should have trusted my gut.
- I need to have firm store policies.
I won't go into detail because most of the fault is my own. Always, always, always test out a new recipe. This is something I have been doing a lot of over the last few weeks but certain circumstances forced very little time to test a batch before the order was due.
I also learned to trust my gut no matter what. Several things felt off when I decorated then later packaged the cookies and I should have listened to what my gut was telling me.
I also learned that I need to make firm store policies. I am still a small and growing business but I don't think everyone gets that. I am one person who runs Hey Love when I am not at my full time day job. In order for me to stay sane and for you to have a fantastic order, orders need to be confirmed ahead of time. I have to be able to plan out my free days to accommodate orders.
As you can see in these photos everything turned out great in the end, but it took a lot of work to get there!
