Mini Cupcakes for BUILD DC

I cannot tell you how ecstatic I am to tell you about my first customer order for Hey Love. It is actually a donation, and quite a hefty one.

When Kristie of BUILD DC heard about my new business, she saw a great opportunity for the both of us. A chance for me to really spread the word about my business, give a large group of people a sampling of my tasty cupcakes, and help the local community and for BUILD DC to have sweets provided as a donation for their youth event, BUILD Metro DC 2nd Annual Youth Business Plan Competition. As a new business owner, I am more than happy to help future business leaders.

The challenge? It wasn’t just an order for cupcakes. It was a hefty order for a lot of hungry mouths. While the amount overwhelmed me at first, I found that the order ended up a piece of [cup]cake (250 to be exact).

This also became a huge learning process for me, as I imagine it would be as Hey Love gets used to bulk orders. I scoured the web for the best websites to purchase cupcake boxes and inserts, the different sizes of liners (so many “mini” sizes), best practices for baking, decorating, and delivery. It was information overload.

In the end, I had so much fun and spent so much time on these cupcakes that I was sad to part with them. My first order, I’m so proud!

I’m looking forward to many, many more cupcake orders and am so proud that my first Hey Love order went towards such a great cause!
